El Panecillo: A lookout for the best pictures

El Panecillo, crowned by the iconic statue of the Virgin of the Panecillo, stands as a emblematic symbol of Quito, offering visitors unparalleled panoramic views of the city and its surroundings, perfect for photography.

You can reach El Panecillo by walking from the Historic Center in approximately 30-40 minutes. The walk is steep, but it offers excellent views of the city. You can also take the C1 bus from Plaza San Francisco to the Cumbayá stop. From there, you can walk to the top of El Panecillo in about 10 minutes.

Regardless of how you get there, make sure to wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen, as the weather in Quito can be sunny and warm.

Romantic strolls in La Carolina Park

La Carolina Park is an oasis of tranquility and nature in the heart of Quito, perfect for a romantic getaway. This extensive park, covering approximately 165 hectares, offers a variety of landscapes and activities that invite couples to enjoy special moments together.

One of the main attractions of La Carolina Park is its diversity of gardens and green areas. Couples can stroll hand in hand through the Botanical Garden, where they can admire a wide variety of plants and exotic flowers, including orchids and bromeliads. This natural environment provides multiple picturesque corners for taking photos.

It also features an artificial lake where couples can rent pedal boats and peacefully navigate, enjoying the surroundings and each other’s company. Additionally, for sports enthusiasts, there are cycling tracks, tennis courts, and areas for practicing yoga or simply relaxing on the grass.

Throughout the park, there are various sculptures and monuments that add a cultural touch to the visit. Couples can stop to admire these works of art while enjoying a quiet conversation. During weekends, the park is often host to cultural events, concerts, and craft fairs that can further enrich the experience.

For those who prefer a more intimate experience, La Carolina Park offers several picnic areas where they can enjoy an outdoor meal. You don’t need to spend a lot of money for a romantic meal. This option is more than viable for a midday or late afternoon break.

Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park

To continue in the natural environment, here we recommend again that you visit a park, perhaps the most well-known. Also known simply as the Metropolitan Park, it is one of the largest and most beautiful green spaces in Quito, ideal for visiting as a couple. With an extension of approximately 570 hectares, this park offers endless options.

It boasts an extensive network of trails that wind through eucalyptus forests, pines, and open areas with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The trails are well-marked and vary in difficulty, so both casual walkers and more experienced hikers will find suitable routes to explore. A hand-in-hand stroll along these trails is a perfect way to enjoy each other’s company, especially if both of you are nature enthusiasts.

One of the main attractions of Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park is its numerous viewpoints, offering panoramic views of the city of Quito and the majestic Andes. Can you imagine the photos you could take in this place?

This park also features several picnic areas and resting spots, perfect for enjoying an outdoor meal. It’s open every day from 7 AM. Of course, entry to the park is free, and you can reach it by taxi, bus, or public transportation.

Romance and memories in La Mariscal

Now let’s explore places marked by Quito’s culture. La Mariscal, known as the “pink zone” of Quito, is a neighborhood that offers a perfect blend of history, entertainment, and romance. Strolling through these streets is a romantic experience in itself: cobblestone avenues, colonial architecture, colorful facades of houses, and balconies adorned with flowers.

La Mariscal is full of cozy cafes and bars, ideal for a romantic date. From charming small coffee shops to bars with outdoor terraces, there are plenty of options to enjoy a drink together. Whether you prefer an elegant atmosphere with candles and soft music or a more casual spot with a bohemian touch, this neighborhood has something for everyone.

It’s also a hub of cultural activity, with art galleries, theaters, and cultural centers that often offer exhibitions, plays, and concerts.

Sucre Theatre

We can’t fail to mention one of Quito’s emblematic establishments. The Sucre National Theatre is one of the oldest and most prestigious theaters in South America. Built between 1879 and 1886 by order of President Ignacio de Veintimilla, this majestic neoclassical-style building has witnessed significant historical and cultural events in the country.

A varied program of cultural events is organized here, including:

  • Operas: The theater boasts excellent acoustics and an orchestra pit, making it an ideal stage for opera performances.
  • Concerts: National and international artists of classical music, jazz, popular music, and other genres have graced the stage of the Teatro Nacional Sucre.
  • Plays: from classics to contemporary pieces.
  • Dance: Classical, contemporary, and folkloric dance performances are showcased.
  • Ballet: The National Ballet of Ecuador is based at the Teatro Nacional Sucre and presents its seasons of classical ballet there.

Additionally, guided tours of the theater are offered, where visitors can learn about the building’s history, architecture, and its most emblematic spaces. Art, photography, and other culturally related exhibitions take place in the theater’s foyer.

Before or after the show, couples can enjoy a romantic dinner at one of the restaurants near the Teatro Sucre. The downtown area is filled with cozy restaurants offering a variety of gastronomic options, from traditional Ecuadorian cuisine to gourmet international dishes.
